Grant Money Available For Local Parks and Recreation Projects

The Tonasket Parks & Recreation District was established by local voters in 2016 to support a local Tonasket pool and to provide maintenance and improvement for Tonasket area parks. During the past year, the Tonasket Park and Recreation District, the City of Tonasket, and the Tonasket Swimming Pool Association, a non-profit organization, were able to bring a new pool to our community.

“We have completed our first summer with a new pool.” stated Tonasket Parks and Recreation District Chair, Jordon Weddle, “We are very pleased that in the six weeks that the pool was open, 34 kids participated in swimming lessons and, on average, 85 people a day visited the pool for free swim, family swim, and lap swim.“

The Tonasket Parks and Recreation District was established to do more than maintain the community pool. “We are offering a small scale grant opportunity for local groups.” said Weddle, “If you have a project for a park or recreational area that you would like to see improved or maintained, please send a grant application to the Parks and Recreation District.”

Starting in 2018, the Tonasket Parks and Recreation District is going to make available up to $5,000 for projects submitted to them through a new grant program. Individuals and groups are encouraged to submit small-scale facility improvement projects to the Tonasket Parks and Recreation District. Selected projects will maintain or enhance public lands for recreational purposes, and may take place in facilities, athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds.

Grant projects may cost more than the $5,000 maximum grant award. Donations in the form of money, materials, volunteer labor, or donated equipment can be used to complete a project. Projects must be located on public property within the Tonasket Park and Recreation District, and there is no requirement that the projects be within the city limits of Tonasket.

Applications must be submitted to the Tonasket Park and Recreation District no later than Jan 31st, 2018. To find out more information on the grant, including application materials, please review the materials below and/or send an email to Jordon Weddle: jweddle@tonasketparks.org

We encourage you to contact the district before submitting the application to discuss your project and to have any questions or concerns you may have answered. We want your project to be successful! We hope that your projects and ideas become fantastic contributions to our local community!
